Handmade Crochet Hanging Decorations - or Jewelry Pendants!
I've been making Small Crochet "Trinkets" with Hanging Loops for years - some are used as Hanging Decorations - some have been used for Jewelry Pendants on Chokers or Necklaces - here are a couple available in my RSS Designs In Fiber Etsy Shop:
Each of these "Hanging Ornaments" are small - within 3-5 Inches - and lightweight and could also be used for a Choker or Necklace with Ribbons or Chains or Cords!
This week they were chosen by Anne Hopfer of On Fire For Handmade to be in their "Eye Poppin Colors" Great Handmade Finds - in the complimentary color combination of Turquoise and Orange! You can Vote for "RSS Designs In Fiber"!
This Coaster, as shown closeup in the photograph below, is crocheted using a special technique: Hairpin Lace - for the Orange Center, which is a "Rosette". ~~~ Around the Orange Center is crocheted a Turquoise Square with Clusters at the Corners. ~~~ The Border is Turquoise - Orange - Turquoise with a rounded crochet edging!
On Fire For Handmade is a site dedicated to showcasing genuine Handmade! Check it out to find many kinds of items for you, your home or office - or as a Gift!
You can Vote for RSS Designs In Fiber in the Poll for this Great Finds (every 24 hours actually for the whole week)!!
The Front of these Coasters, as shown in the photo above, have a White Star in Navy Blue - with a Red-White-Red Border - intentionally done as an Americana Red. White and Blue theme!!
The Back comes out slightly different - but if you like it better, you can have this face-up - crocheted to be Reversible!
These Coasters are 4 1/2 Inches in Diameter - here shown as a Gift Set!
In doing my Handmade, I like to try different Stitch Patterns and different ideas.
This is the first time I did the Crochet Spike Stitch in a Square.
I think the color combination of Darker Chocolate Brown and a Light Powder Blue is a great contrasting color theme.
Brown is a "composite color" or "tertiary color" and especially the Dark is a "Low Intensity" mix of Red, Yellow - and Black.
The combinations of Red and Yellow in it put it on the opposite side of the "Color Wheel" from Light Blue - meaning that "Chocolate Brown and Powder Blue" are a complementary, contrasting color theme -- and I love to work in such color themes!!!
I'd been looking at this Spike Stitch Square pattern for some time to make something - and I thought this was a good opportunity to do it!! It is on Etsy.
On Fire For Handmade - a site that showcases and promotes genuine Handmade - has a Weekly Event for Handmade Great Finds - Each Week is a Theme - either a Color Theme or Seasonal Theme.
The Aqua in the Thread Crochet piece of mine in the photo above is that Shade of Aqua. I crocheted it with rounds of different colors in the design - the darker contrasting Navy Blue helps to bring out the design.
It is really all about Handmade - and how people get creative making things!!
Take a look at this Week's On Fire For Handmade Great Finds! There is a poll at the bottom for voting for a Favorite - including my Thread Crochet piece - if you like it, Vote for RSS Designs In Fiber!!
A-h-h-h - after whatever weather you had this 2015 Winter - how beautiful and welcome is the Nature on Spring Days! ~~~~~~ So, when I Crochet or Knit, I'm still choosing themes for the Seasons, and Spring is one of my favorites! ~~~~~ Here are some of my Artistic Handmade Spring-themed pieces - Flowers, Rabbit, Clover, .......................
California Poppy In The Sky - Crochet Tapestry
Note: The Poppy is a signature plant of the Antelope Valley - a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this piece will be donated to the Antelope Valley Conservancy, whose stated Mission in the Antelope Valley is "...the acquisition and stewardship of native habitats and watershed resources."

This is another color variation on the pattern of a Small Oval - done in Bruges Lace - with 3 Flowers down the Center.
-- Flowers and Edging in "Light Pansy" - a Violet Purple, Yellow and White Ombre
-- Bruges Oval in Light Green
I really like this pattern -- I have done it in multiple sizes - from "Trinket" or Coaster-size to the size of a Centerpiece or Small Table Runner -- of course with a few adjustments.
I like the Oval "Trinket" one as an alternative to the more common Square or Round Coaster patterns.
This is part of what I call my "FLOWER DECOR SERIES" - I do a lot of Crocheted Flowers in Thread Crochet. Some of the different pieces match. Some people really like Flower Crochet. I have Sold any number of them - as shown in my Videos on You Tube!
But these also Match another Handmade piece I made with the same Threads that is in my Etsy Shop -- which I intentionally did in the Light Pansy and Light Green Crochet Threads - so it did Match! I like to make pieces that Match -- it is part of doing actual Decor for Homes or Offices -- it can really be part of Interior Design!!
Here is a small Collage of the 2 different patterns that Match:
As many who have read here on my blog, I like to use Color in my Designs In Fiber - much of it over the year in Thread Crochet.
But ~~~ I have also done quite a bit of Thread Crochet in one Color - and most of that has been WHITE!
Certain patterns lend themselves to be done in one Color -- and a stark White against a dark background is very Dramatic! So, in these cases, it is the design(s) or pattern(s) of a piece that is the deciding factor -- and the subject may determine whether it is done in stark CLASSIC WHITE - or the more "primitive" or "rustic" or "country" beiges.
The above video is of only ALL WHITE Thread Crochet pieces I have done myself.
In addition to the pattern - textured stitches and beads add emphasis to certain parts of the design.
In this first example of a Filet Crochet of a Cottontail Rabbit, I used Raised Single Crochet stitches around the shape of the Rabbit -- and Puff Stitches for the Cottontail:
Another Filet Crochet Doily - I call this "Romantic Couple" - it is a Silhouette of a Couple in a Dancing pose. I added Silver Blending Filament to the Woman and Man figures in it for a little bit of sparkle!
In this Closeup of one point of a Large Snowflake, you can see the Design -- with small Glass Seed Beads on the point and the edge, which adds Texture and a light Sparkle to the piece:
In this example, "Popcorn" Stitches are used to crochet the "Pineapple" - called "Popcorn Pineapples" - so here you have both Texture and a Distinctive Design:
In this last specific example of a Thread Crochet White Irish Crochet Heart Trinket - White Glass Round Pearls are crocheted inside the center of a Crocheted Rose with 4 layers of 8 petals each - adding Sparkle and more Texture:
