Bright Red Flowers in White Lace Square - By RSS Designs In Fiber

The Bright Red of the Flowers in this Doily may be a good representation of the some of the Brighter Colors for the coming Spring!!

I decided to make these Flowers with an unusual thread - a DMC Embroidery Floss in the "Color Variations" Line, which has a blend of Reds in it - just beautiful!

In these 2 Closeups, you can see the Red Floss Thread clearly - especially the second one - showing  one motif really close up!

~~ This Second Closeup is of one corner of the Red Flower Square Doily - and you can see the Red Floss I used - and the Lace Design - clearly!

The Square Doily can also be displayed as a Diamond like this:

AND -- Anne Hopfer included it in her "Cherry Tomato [Red] Handmade Finds"!! ~~~ You can Vote for "RSS Designs In Fiber"!!

By the way, "Cherry Tomato" is one of Pantone's Colors for Spring 2018 - a really Bright, Bold Red, which definitely is one of the colors that "...encourages a sense of fun and playful release." (Quote from the Pantone Article for Spring 2018 Color Palette! -- I think Colors are such fun -- and Pantone with its Color Trends is fun, too!!!)

New RSS Designs In Fiber Tunisian Crochet Pot Holder Set - Orange and Cream - In On Fire For Handmade Finds

Ruth Sandra Sperling
RSS Designs In Fiber - Get My Handmade in my Bonanza Booth or my Etsy Shop -- or Privately

Orange and Cream Potholder Set in Tunisian Crochet Tweed by Ruth Sandra Sperling - RSS Designs In Fiber

Update as of October 20, 2019:  The original Set of these Orange and Cream Potholders Sold, but they can be made again - see my "Made-To-Order" RSS Designs In Fiber Listing on Etsy for a Set of 2.  If you want more, email me for a Custom Order.

Anne Hopfer, who does these "Handmade Finds" on her website, "On Fire For Handmade" sometimes does them in certain color combinations and this time she chose the Complimentary Color Combination of "Orange and Blue", which are very well-known complementary colors!

~~ You can always Vote for "RSS Designs In Fiber" in the Poll in this Handmade Finds!! ~~

Though I did not have anything made in both Orange and Blue - I did have these Handmade Pot Holders in my Etsy Shop in an Orange Color theme - but this complementary color scheme idea gave me another idea! ----- Though I would usually think that these would fit in an Orange/Yellow/Fall Colors Kitchen theme - they would also fit nicely as a contrasting color in a Blue Kitchen theme - livening it up some!!

Though Tunisian or Afghan Crochet Tweed, which I crocheted the main center part of these Pot Holders with, is a standard-ly done stitch - this exact design - with the Border and Rounded Edge - crocheted in a Chunky Cotton yarn - is my own!

I've been making Pot Holders for my own Kitchen for some years now (LOL)!  So, I've been experimenting some with what I think is the best, most useful design.  For my own use - I rarely hang them up now, so I left the hanging loop off (though if I do a custom order, I can always add them on for someone).

One Orange and Cream Tweed Pot Holder by Ruth Sandra Sperling of RSS Designs In Fiber

And I crocheted these with a Chunky Cotton Yarn - making them extra-thick!  This Chunky Cotton Yarn is labelled "Double Worsted" - but in another color theme, if I only have it in regular worsted weight cotton yarn, I can just double up the worsted yarn to get the same thickness!

And I made these a generous size:  9 3/4 Inches Wide by 8 3/4 Inches High.

Therefore, overall they are very useful for handling hot dishes of all kinds - and they can also serve as a Hot Pad or Trivet on a Table or Counter!

The Photo above and the one below give you a closer look at how these are constructed - Tunisian or Afghan crochet come out a bit thick anyway - in Chunky Yarn, they are really thick - and I like that thickness for picking up Hot Casserole type Dishes out of an oven - or off the top of a stove!

Go For Handmade!! - In Home Decor, there are so many Colors you can choose for yourself - or for  Gifts for others - and you can choose the Fibers and Designs!

My Newest Crochet Coaster Creation - And It's In On Fire For Handmade "Great Handmade Finds" Today!

Photo in On Fire For Handmade - Brown n Blue Handmade Finds - 2017-02-26 - Original Product Photo by Ruth Sandra Sperling of RSS Designs In Fiber

In doing my Handmade, I like to try different Stitch Patterns and different ideas.

This is the first time I did the Crochet Spike Stitch in a Square.

I think the color combination of Darker Chocolate Brown and a Light Powder Blue is a great contrasting color theme.

Brown is a "composite color" or "tertiary color" and especially the Dark is a "Low Intensity" mix of Red, Yellow - and Black.

The combinations of Red and Yellow in it put it on the opposite side of the "Color Wheel" from Light Blue - meaning that "Chocolate Brown and Powder Blue" are a complementary, contrasting color theme -- and I love to work in such color themes!!!

I'd been looking at this Spike Stitch Square pattern for some time to make something - and I thought this was a good opportunity to do it!!  It is on Etsy.

Knitting Hats Again - and These Are Custom Made-to-Order

Ribbed Knit Hat by RSS Designs In Fiber - Shown in Blue and Gray Tweed - Choice of Size and Colors
Handmade Ribbed Knit Hat by RSS Designs In Fiber - Shown in Blue and Gray Tweed - Custom Made-To-Order

I do a lot of Crocheting - but I decided it was time to Knit some Hats again.  Knitted Hats in a Ribbed Knit, like the one above - and the one below - are really nice because of the way they "hug" the head!

They also have a bit more stretch than other knitting patterns,  so they fit different sizes of heads, so you can buy one as a gift and not worry too much if it will exactly fit.

But I decided to do Handmade Hats as Custom Made-To-Order, so the Customer can choose the Size from the Size list, which I have for both of these Knitted Hats. ~~ And, like in the Hat pictured above, I also can offer it in different colors to be paired with the Gray for the Tweed - I am offering that Hat in these color themes:

  • Country Blue - and Heather Gray (shown in photo above)
  • Autumn Red - and Heather Gray
  • Dark Country Blue - and Heather Gray
  • Dark Sage Green - and Heather Gray
It will only take a few days to make - and I will ship it on the next Post Office business day after completing it and sending a picture of it to the Customer.  I always send a picture of the completed Handmade item whenever I do a Custom Order - and ship it as soon as I can!

On the other hand - the Hat pictured below is made in a Yarn that is an Ombre Chunky Yarn of Red, Blue and Tan (what is called a Primitive Americana color theme) and I am offering it in a choice of Sizes - from 20 Inches Around Head to 25 Inches Around Head.

It, too, will take a few days to complete in the size chosen - and then ship.

All my Handmade Hats, Headbands and Scarves are available on Etsy - and you can put in a Custom Request on Etsy, too if you want one in a certain pattern or in different colors or yarns!  Just ask me!!

Field of Flowers Doily with Yellow and Orange Flowers By RSS Designs In Fiber

Yellow and Orange!
Bright - Cheerful - Sunny!

Well those are the reasons I decided to make this "Field of Flowers Doily"

It has several shades of Yellow - from very Pale Yellow to a Darker Yellow - and then there is the Orange thrown in!  And it has a Ruffle - very feminine!

It is crocheted by me, Ruth Sandra Sperling of RSS Designs In Fiber, in very Fine Heirloom weight high quality DMC Threads - all DMC Cordonnet Special in Size 30.

And Anne Hopfer of On Fire For Handmade decided to put this Doily I made in this week's Handmade Event:
- where until this Saturday, October 22nd - you can vote in the Poll for your favorite - So, you can Vote for "RSS Designs In Fiber"!!

In any case - you might like to take a look and have some fun seeing all the genuine Handmade at On Fire For Handmade!

Aqua and Navy Blue Thread Crochet Coaster-Size Doily

On Fire For Handmade - a site that showcases and promotes genuine Handmade - has a Weekly Event for Handmade Great Finds - Each Week is a Theme - either a Color Theme or Seasonal Theme.

This Week the Handmade Great Finds is a "Limpet Shell" Color Theme -- Limpet Shell is a Shade of Aqua chosen by Pantone for this 2016 Season, as shown in the On Fire For Handmade photo here:

The Aqua in the Thread Crochet piece of mine in the photo above is that Shade of Aqua.  I crocheted it with rounds of different colors in the design - the darker contrasting Navy Blue helps to bring out the design.

It is really all about Handmade - and how people get creative making things!!

My Newest Handmade Crochet Decor - Romantic Lace - Irish Crochet - Home Accents

Ruth Sandra Sperling
RSS Designs In Fiber - Get My Handmade in my Bonanza Booth or my Etsy Shop -- or Privately

Making things is one of my favorite occupations in life at this point - and Crochet seems to be my choice of craft right now - I have all kinds of patterns and ideas noted.

So-o-o - I get new things made - the photo above is my newest Handmade Crochet Decor item - definitely Romantic Style - in Spring Colors of Lavender and an Ombre named Light Pansy.

I named it "Lavender Pansy Doily" - and depending on how it suits you, you can have it as a Diamond (above) - or a Square (below) - See Full Details at the link.

Then sometimes I decide to do a popular design in different Colors or Color Themes -- I have been making and selling these Irish Crochet Hearts with 3D Flowers for over 10 years -- I have done them in different color arrangements - and I decided to do a new one in a Blue theme - whatever you may think - when I looked up the significance of different colors of Hearts - a Blue Heart means "Pure Honest Love" - see the link for full details!

Then I was thinking - people who like to buy these Irish Crochet Hearts might like them in different colors - they are fairly quick to make, so I created a "Made-To-Order" Etsy listing - offering a choice of 5 different color themes, as shown below:

Hearts - and Romantic Picot Lace - for those who like them - are popular at any time!!

-- And I like to make things in COLORS!!!

And these sizes of Handmade Crochet Doilies can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Home Decor
  • Romantic Gift
  • Romantic Decoration
  • Crochet Applique
  • Pendant for Necklace or Choker

---- or use your own imagination to come up with something!

I also have a Page here on my Blog presenting many of the Crocheted Heart pieces  have made over the years:

Brand New Scarf in My Etsy Shop - Burgundy Marsala Reds and Roses - Long, Soft and Textured

Long 78 Inch Scarf in Burgundy Marsala Reds

My newest completed Handmade project is a Personal Accessory - made with Colder Times in mind, it is a 78 Inch by 4 1/2 Inch Chunky Scarf Crocheted in 2 Yarns in a Textured Pattern.

Below is a Closeup Photo of one end of the Scarf - the "front" side - it shows that the Solid Burgundy Yarn and the "Heathered" Yarn are somewhat "inter-woven" in this stitch pattern, which is call the "Bee Stitch" - and in this Closeup Photo, you can more easily see how textured it is.

This is a COLORFUL - and rather Practical Scarf - it is Soft - and you can wear it a number of different ways - including wrapped around your neck, tied around your neck - or just hanging down.

See the details on materials and purchasing in my Etsy Shop!

Plus the care for it is fairly easy as you can either wash it by hand in cool water with mild laundry soap and lay out to dry - or throw it in a washing machine if it has a setting for delicate knits in cool water.

Rather a Fun Scarf - especially if you like Burgundy Reds - or Reds in the Marsala Color Family!!!

And Pssst - if you would like it in another combination of Colors, send me an email about it - I'm still doing Custom Orders!

Honoring the Creativity in Crochet of Marinke - "A Creative Being" - Mandalas For Marinke

Ruth Sandra Sperling
RSS Designs In Fiber
- Get My Handmade in my Bonanza Booth or my Etsy Shop -- or Privately

I was very sad on the day in June 2015 when I read the Crochet Concupiscence article with the news about Marinke of "A Creative Being" succumbing to suicide - but I immediately thought that the creation of the Project "Mandalas For Marinke" was great - to honor and celebrate Marinke's creativity.

What Marinke and I - along with many others - had in common was the Love of doing CROCHET and getting CREATIVE with it - with lots of COLORS!!!

So, I decided right then and there - when I first read about it - that I would crochet some things based on Marinke's Mandala Patterns for that project.

The photo above is of the first one I did - based on Marinke's Spoke Mandala Pattern.  When I first saw Marinke's Mandalas, it was the one that caught my attention and I wanted to do!  This one is done in Peaches and Creme Cotton Worsted Yarn - and is 10 Inches in diameter.

But I wanted to do more - I have been crocheting Hats and Scarves longer than anything else - and I thought it would be neat to make a Hat based on Marinke's Standard Mandala Pattern in lots of cheerful colors - I decided to do it in Peaches & Creme Cotton Yarn, which I have in lots of colors - and I did them in the order of the Color Spectrum - Red to Purple/Magenta - here are the Photos of what I call the "Mandala Hat" --

Then I decided to do another Spoke Mandala - but this one is done in a thinner thread - a Size 3 Cotton Thread - in Red, Green and White - coming out to 6 1/2 Inches in Diameter ---

Based on Marinke's Patterns - they Honor and Celebrate her Creativity!

From the Crochet Concupiscence post starting "Mandalas For Marinke":
"Each post will include at least one fact about depression to help raise awareness about this issue as we celebrate Wink’s work."
Though my medical problems are different than Marinkes and not in the field of Mental Health, Crocheting has brought me much Joy!!!  And I totally support and respect the Human Rights and Dignity for those who suffer from Mental Health problems - I have known about this organization for some years:
- and I strongly believe in Patients Rights and proper medical care for all.

Outrageous Orange On Fire For Handmade Great Finds June 8 - 14, 2015

Anne Hopfer does it Every Week - a "Great Finds" of Handmade Online - this Week, June 8th through the 14th 2015 - she chose the theme "Outrageous Orange"!

Outrageous Orange Great Finds

Well, I guess you might think these Orange (with some Yellow) Crocheted Roses - on the Table Topper I made - are a bit Outrageous - I added some Copper-y Kreinik Metallic Blending Filament to the edges of the Crocheted Roses - and the Tan Lace - to add some Sparkle!

If you like this, VOTE FOR "RSS Designs In Fiber"!!!

Orange Roses are a bit new on the scene!  According to proflowers.com :
"When everything’s coming up roses there’s no better way to celebrate than with a bright bouquet of orange roses. With their suggestions of fire, citrus, glowing sunsets, they have a passionate intensity that says thankscongratulations or I love you with boundless enthusiasm. ...."Blending the friendly associations of the yellow rose with the true-love implications of the red enabled a much subtler, intriguing suggestion of love emerging from friendship."

So, if you would like something a bit intense - being Welcoming or Celebratory - on your Table - think of using my Handmade Table Topper with Sparkling Orange Crocheted Rose Flowers !!

Ruth Sandra Sperling
RSS Designs In Fiber - My Handmade Designs on ARTFIRE

Decorating in the Fall or Autumn - Tables, Rooms for various get-togethers, Offices, School rooms - including Bulletin Boards - can be Fun!

Fall is such a colorful season - at least in many parts of North America where the leaves on the trees turn all kinds of colors - from Yellow to Orange to Rust or Maple or Dark Brown!

In making the Handmade I do, I tend to think Seasonally!

And Fall is one of my favorite Seasons - with its lovely, and very often, bright colors!

The Collage above is all my Handmade - listed in the "Fall Colors Designs" Section of my Artfire Studio.

Made with a variety of Threads and Yarns - in different designs - and on somewhat different themes!

Many of these Decor pieces could be used in Fall Table Settings - or as Decorations around Rooms - or on Walls.

In Home Decor or Interior Design, they would be called "Decor Accents"!!

What would fit in your Decorating Theme this Fall????

New Design for Handmade Hanging Pot Holder - with Tunisian Crochet

Kitchen Hanging Potholders in Berry Colors

I learned how to do the Basic Tunisian Crochet - and when I did it with an Ombre (or Variegated) Yarn, I found out the beautiful look that resulted - Abstract, but I loved it!

So-o-o, I decided to use it to make some Centers for Pot Holders and other Decor - and the set above was my first project that I did and listed online.

Below is a Closeup of the Tunisian Crochet Center for the Pot Holder on the right in the Above Photo!

Closeup of Tunisian Crochet Center for Hanging Pot Holder in Berry Colors
Around the Tunisian Crochet Center are rounds in Colors that fit:  Mauve Purple and the Winterberry Ombre and White.

Tunisian Crochet Basic, done tightly, with an Afghan Crochet Hook that makes tight stitches with the Yarn or Thread you are working with, results in a rather dense, tight Solid Fabric.  I crocheted it that way intentionally - I wanted a Tight, Dense fabric that would result in a fabric thick enough to be Protective for picking up Hot Pots or Dishes!

I moved on to my next project using Tunisian Crochet to make Pot Holders with a Yarn in different shades of one Color - Yellow - mixed in with White -- it is called "Daisy Ombre" by Peaches and Creme (though it is a discontinued Color now).

Yellow Hanging Pot Holder Set with Tunisian Crochet Center

It is a little different with this kind of Colored Ombre Yarn, as the Colors are really Analogous, making a more Monochromatic Color Theme - but enough of a difference from the White to the Darker Yellow to create a design.  I really like this one, too!

Here is the Closeup of the Tunisian Crochet Center for this Pot Holder design:

Closeup of Tunisian Crochet Center of Yellow Daisy Ombre Yarn Hanging Pot Holder

I thought that these Yellow "Daisy Ombre" Pot Holders would fit well in a Kitchen where Yellow is either a Main Color in the decorating theme - or an Accent Color.  From what I have heard from different people - Yellow is often a color in Kitchens (I think)!

A New Crochet Technique incorporated into making my Handmade Decor to add more variety to what I make - I like the "Abstract Design" that results!

There is one thing, though - Tunisian Crochet does not look the same on the back - so I've included a picture below of the BACK of the Yellow Daisy Ombre Pot Holders - the back of the Closeup above, so you can see how it looks - which I also like!
